Golf balls used to raise funds

Volunteers are being sought to sell tickets for a “ball drop” fundraiser for the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation.

The event is the centre’s second annual WestJet Cares Great Golf Ball Drop.

Set for June 21, it will involve having 500 golf balls hoisted 150 ft. in the air by a crane and dropped over a temporary hole on the driving range at the Truro Golf Club. Tickets for the balls are $20 and the one in the hole will win the grand prize of two tickets anywhere WestJet flies (a value of $2,900).

But first, the tickets have to be sold.

In that spirit, the foundation is looking for 50 volunteers to each sell 10 tickets between March 6 and 31.

The 50 “healthcare ambassadors” will also be eligible to win prizes, including a $200 gift card for the person who sells their 10 tickets the fastest. There will also be 10 additional draws for prizes valued from $25 to $100.

The event is part of Canada 150 celebrations, in which Canadians have been challenged to volunteer 150 hours of their time in 2017 to promote giving back to their community and country. The hope is to create a lasting legacy of volunteerism.

Money raised through the event will be used by the foundation to purchase hospital equipment for the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.

Past purchases include an MRI machine in Diagnostic Imaging, a portable ultrasound for the pain clinic, Neonatal Resuscitation equipment in Women’s and Children’s Health, as well as various education and training opportunities for staff.
