From donuts to dollars to wishes

Fundraiser for children with serious illnesses taking orders now

Believe it or not, eating donuts can be good for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Children’s Wish is taking orders for Krispy Kreme donuts to be picked up in Truro, and eight other locations around Nova Scotia on April 13 – proceeds from the sales of these donuts help the charity fulfil wishes for children with life-threatening diseases.

Recently Children’s Wish sent Adam Davis of Truro and his family to Jamaica to meet the characters of Sesame Street.

Last summer the organization sent Truro’s Jax Gaudet to Hawaii to swim with dolphins.

A dozen donuts costs $15 and must be ordered online at by April 7. Those who want to avoid the calories but still help out can order the Dieters Dozen and instead of donuts, you’ll receive a tax receipt for your donation.

Pickup in Truro is at Truro Mazda on Juniper Street from 8 to 10 a.m. on April 13.

The fundraiser is also taking place in Halifax, Amherst, Antigonish, Bridgewater, Sydney, Saint Peters, New Glasgow and Kentville.

The fundraiser, called One Wish In One Day, is in its seventh year and has raised over $350,000 for children diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

“That means 35 children were granted their very special wish through this campaign,” says Adrienne Dean, a spokesperson for Children’s Wish. “Every wish is as unique as the child making it, from finally getting to cuddle with grandparents who live far away to hitting a puck with a favourite hockey player. In the often-painful life of a seriously ill child, these wishes have made a tremendous difference.”
