Truro business owner to seek PC nomination for Colchester North
A Truro businesswoman is seeking the nomination to run as the Progressive Conservative candidate in Colchester North in the next provincial election.
Rebecca Taylor, owner of the Pearl & Daisy Natural Soap Company, said she hopes her experience in business, government, and community service will be a winning combination to secure the nomination.
“Most people know me as the owner of Pearl & Daisy Natural Soap Company, or through my volunteer work with business and community organizations,” Taylor said in a news release. “They might not know that I’ve also worked for a school board and for provincial government departments responsible for labour and advanced education, environmental stewardship and job creation.”
Taylor’s business innovations have been recognized with awards from the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce, The Globe & Mail, and Innovacorp. In 2011, she was recipient of an Export Achievement award sponsored by Nova Scotia Business Inc.
She has also shared her experiences as an entrepreneur through presentations and writings on the topics of resilience and leadership.
Taylor said she believes her innovative approach will help serve people in the Colchester North riding, which encompasses the communities between Lower Five Islands, Valley and Tatamagouche. “Real leadership means listening to what people need and having the courage and good sense to make it happen,” she said.
“Colchester North is looking for a new representative to put us back on track. I’d like to be that person.”
The riding is currently served by Liberal MLA Karen Casey.
Taylor’s family is from the Londonderry area where she lives with her husband Dan and two teenage daughters.
The PC Party of Nova Scotia opened nominations March 20. The nomination process closes April 3.
