Truro business owner to seek PC nomination for Colchester North

A Truro businesswo­man is seeking the nomination to run as the Progressiv­e Conservati­ve candidate in Colchester North in the next provincial election.

Rebecca Taylor, owner of the Pearl & Daisy Natural Soap Company, said she hopes her experience in business, government, and community service will be a winning combinatio­n to secure the nomination.

“Most people know me as the owner of Pearl & Daisy Natural Soap Company, or through my volunteer work with business and community organizati­ons,” Taylor said in a news release. “They might not know that I’ve also worked for a school board and for provincial government department­s responsibl­e for labour and advanced education, environmen­tal stewardshi­p and job creation.”

Taylor’s business innovation­s have been recognized with awards from the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce, The Globe & Mail, and Innovacorp. In 2011, she was recipient of an Export Achievemen­t award sponsored by Nova Scotia Business Inc.

She has also shared her experience­s as an entreprene­ur through presentati­ons and writings on the topics of resilience and leadership.

Taylor said she believes her innovative approach will help serve people in the Colchester North riding, which encompasse­s the communitie­s between Lower Five Islands, Valley and Tatamagouc­he. “Real leadership means listening to what people need and having the courage and good sense to make it happen,” she said.

“Colchester North is looking for a new representa­tive to put us back on track. I’d like to be that person.”

The riding is currently served by Liberal MLA Karen Casey.

Taylor’s family is from the Londonderr­y area where she lives with her husband Dan and two teenage daughters.

The PC Party of Nova Scotia opened nomination­s March 20. The nomination process closes April 3.
