Fireworks this weekend, Retro next weekend as season draws to a close at Ski Wentworth

Despite recent snow, even skiers are admitting spring is just around the corner.

Ski Wentworth switches to spring hours – meaning no night skiing – for the last week of March, which is also the last week of skiing.

To mark the arrival of spring, hill staff will be setting off a five- to seven-minute fireworks show this Saturday at the end of the night, about 9:30 p.m.

“We’re ending night skiing with a bang,” says Leslie Wilson, the hill’s general manager.

Next Saturday is Retro Day where skiers and boarders wear their hippest, grooviest mountain wear. Retro Day starts with the free Retro Breakfast.

“Basically we take whatever is left in the fridge and freezers and put out a big spread,” says Wilson. The Retro King and Queen are crowned at breakfast.

That afternoon is the Aquaneige where participan­ts try to ski or board across a large pond of water near the bottom of the hill.

And that evening is the Ender Bender party in Ducky’s with DJ Harv playing a night of retro disco tunes.

Sunday, April 2, is the final day of skiing but also the Easter Egg Hunt on the bunny hill which last year saw over 100 children take part.

Overall, Wilson says been a good ski season.

“We had a very good March break,” she said.

“That helps us put an end to what was overall a very decent season. The skiing these last couple of weeks has been amazing and this last blast of deep fluffy snow is icing on the cake.” it has
