Women raising voices for those who can’t
People are invited to bring their pink pussy hats and their singing voices when they stop by Riverfront Park for the “I Can’t Keep Quiet Celebration” at 2:30 p.m. on April 8.
“This is a continuation of the march on Washington and we want people to raise their voices and help us to be heard globally,” said Linda MacDonald who, along with Cindie Smith, organized the event. “Singing is a way to come together with one voice and make a statement to society.”
People around the world will be gathering for similar events, giving a voice to those silenced by oppression and fear. Because music is emotionally moving and healing, the event personally
benefits participants.
“We’re joining a global collective of women and allies to promote the value of human
rights of women and girls,” said MacDonald. “Everyone needs to be respected and have human dignity in the world and something like this is empowering. It makes you feel you’re not alone.”
People of all sexes are invited to take part in the celebration. Lead singers will be Lenore Zann, Sheena Henderson and Nicole MacLeod. Emily Frizzell will play guitar. The women are getting together to tune up but everyone can practise at home by singing along with the video at https://www.youtube.com/ watch? v= z Lv Iw 8 J 8sWE .
