Week of Pride and Diversity to be held in Truro
Al McNutt would like to see a variety of people come out and celebrate who they are during a week of “Pride and Diversity.”
Last year the Northern Healthy Connections Society (NHCS) organized a successful Pride Parade, the first held in Truro. This year plans are in the works for an entire week of events, celebrating a variety of things.
“We want to be as inclusive as we can,” said McNutt, supervisor at the NHCS. “I want this to be Truro’s own event celebrating diversity.”
Celebrations will begin July 24 with the raising of the rainbow flag, and conclude on parade day, July 29.
“We’re not necessarily going to highlight LGBTQ pride,” said McNutt. “That will be part of it but we want to be inclusive of other groups. We want to engage other segments of the community. Everyone should feel welcomed and supported.”
The parade will be larger this year, starting from the Colchester Legion Stadium parking lot and finishing at the civic square, where a variety of displays and vendors will be set up. Businesses are invited to join in the celebrations by decorating and holding special events. A couple of businesses are also being sought as bouncy house sponsors.
“The more colour and vibrancy, the better,” added McNutt. “We want this to be a lot of fun. Be proud of who you are, no matter who you are.”
