STEVENS, Roland Bradley “Rollie” – 82, Truro, passed away peacefully, with his daughter at his side, on Sunday afternoon, April

2, 2017, at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro.

Born in Forest Glen, Colchester County, he was a son of the late Percy and Jean (Belmore) Stevens.

In earlier years, Rollie worked at MacPhee’s Meats on Lyman Street, and then at Ryan’s IGA in the store and doing deliveries. He also enjoyed playing hockey, as a goaltender, and in later years played with Truro Bearcat Old Timers Hockey League.

The Stevens family grew produce and he displayed it at exhibition­s through the years; he was also known for growing banana squash and giving it to various friends and acquaintan­ces around town.

Rollie worked at Nova Scotia Teacher’s College and Truro Centennial Pool, from where he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending horse races and in later years really enjoyed golfing.

Rollie is survived by his daughter, Sue (Martin) Cameron, Truro; son, Mark Stevens, Truro; granddaugh­ter, Ashlyn Stevens, Truro; brother, Donald (Bonnie) Stevens, Salmon River; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Bogle, Stewiacke; Alfred Wallace, Grand Lake; former wife, Margie (Barber) Stevens, Truro; many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his sisters, Ruth Wallace, Helen Bogle; brothers, Arnold Stevens, Aubrey (Eva) Stevens.

The family would like to thank Cedarstone Enhanced Care for the wonderful support and care during Rollie’s two and a half years there; they enjoyed his smile and pleasant demeanor and he enjoyed their company.

Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where Rollie’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2017, and funeral service 1 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2017, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiatin­g. Reception will follow.

Spring interment in Brookfield Westside Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Rollie’s memory to Cedarstone Resident Council are welcomed.
