Riddick Stone coming home to battle Titus in heavyweight title match
Truro’s Riddick Stone has his sights set on winning the IHW heavyweight title this weekend in his hometown.
Innovative Hybrid Wrestling is coming to Truro.
The Moncton-based wrestling organization is back for a second time after a successful turnout last year, says promoter Kevin Tyler.
“Very few people are disappointed after a night out with us.”
Riddick Stone, known as Josh outside the ring, is Truro’s own former heavyweight champion. He’s six-foot-three and weighs 280 lbs.
“He’s a big boy, and he’s looking to get the title back in his hometown,” said Tyler.
Stone was born in Truro and he’s looking forward to coming home for the event, he said.
“I’m excited about getting to wrestle at home. Everyone from home and work can get to see what I do.”
He’s battling the current IHW heavyweight champion, ‘Titus,’ hoping to regain his title.
“I’m going to win it, well, I’ll try,” Stone said.
You can expect close to a
dozen other Maritime wrestlers in the ring, including Shane Stephens, Steve Arsenault, Chris Cooke and ‘The Answer.’
Cooke and ‘The Answer’ are battling for the Red Rock Wrestling Championship title. Cooke
defeated his opponent recently at a wrestling event in P.E.I., claiming the RRW title.
“It’s going to be a great night with lots of action, so don’t miss it,” said Tyler.
Tyler says innovative hybrid wrestling is professional wrestling just like events seen on TV.
“We’re the best professional wrestling organization in the Maritimes and we’re very proud to be from the Maritimes.”
IHW is a growing organization based out of Moncton with its own Bell Live TV1 programming. They’ve been in business for the last 12 years.
From each ticket sold this year, $1 will be donated to Christmas Daddies – an organization that helps make Christmas better for kids.
“It’s for a great cause so give pro wrestling a chance. The organization has come a long way and it’s a great event to bring the family to,” said Tyler.
The event is Saturday at Ecole Acadienne de Truro. Bell time is 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7. If you buy a Mega Pass, festivities begin at 6:15.
Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for kids. Tickets at the door are $20. Mega Pass tickets are an additional $5. You can buy your advance tickets at Supplement King, 9 Commercial St.
