Donald Marvin Fields

-

Donald Marvin Fields, AKA Donnie, Father Fields, Peppy, Old Fart – 83, Brookfield, passed away April 24, 2017 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Shortt’s Lake, he was the son of the late Marvin and Melinda (Taylor) Fields.

He is survived by his loving wife, Annie Mae (Loughead); children, Gregory (Joanne), Shortt’s Lake; Tammy (Basil), Truro; Michael (Sharon), Shortt’s Lake; Linda Elms, Truro; grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Shanea, Eric, Mikael and Christopher.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Hugh and Arthur, as well as his four-legged best friend – Snoop.

He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his ability to drive a bargain and his unbiased love of conversation. Also known to tell the odd story, they could include something from his many years behind the wheel and all of the adventures that found him along the way.

Early in those years they could also consist of late nights at the cottage with guitars, spoons, and his larger than life vocals, perhaps accompanied by a refreshment. In the later years those nights turned into days at the lake and Gator tours with Mama Fields.

At 83, he has been known to wheel a chain saw better than some in their 30s (no names mentioned). This was all due to his nonstop work ethic, whether it be in the garden, cutting wood, mowing lawns, or his stealthy delivery of veggies to his neighbourhood friends and family. This also helped him to master the art of timely chicken noodle soup preparation for Mikael.

Cremation has taken place with no visitation or funeral service by request of the man himself. The family asks that you celebrate his life in true father Fields style and surround yourself with people you love.

Donations can be made in Donald’s memory to the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
