Bearcats face Sooners

-

The Truro Bearcats were in action this weekend, hosting the Sydney Sooners in a three-game set at the TAAC Grounds.

Game times were shuffled but the Truro Bearcats and Sydney Sooners managed to get their Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League three-game set in, with a contest Saturday night and two on Sunday.

In the end, it was the Sooners who prevailed as they swept all three.

The losses leave the Bearcats winless in four outings at this early stage of the NSSBL season.

In the opener Saturday, the Sooners pushed across a run in the top of the ninth inning that proved to be the difference as they edged the Bearcats 4-3.

Sunday, Sydney completed the sweep with wins of 11-3 and 8-7 in 10 innings at the TAAC Grounds.

Saturday, the teams each scattered seven hits. Sydney led 3-0 after the second inning before the Bearcats got untracked and plated three runs in their half of the fifth.

Darson Murphy had a pair of singles for the Bearcats with Jeff Chisholm, Ryan Bates and Adam Lombard adding a single each. Chisholm and Bates each drove in a run. Errors played a part as Truro was guilty of five to the Sooners’ two.

John Chapman started on the mound for Truro before giving way to Jordan Johnson who took the loss.

Kenny Long took the win for Sydney, coming on in relief for Sheldon MacDonald.

Details of Sunday’s games were unavailable but will be posted online at trurodaily.com when they are available.

Next action for the Bearcats is Thursday night as they travel to Dartmouth to take on the Moosehead Dry in a 7:30 p.m. contest. Friday night they return to the TAAC Grounds to host the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians. Opening pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
