STAPLES, Jean Alverda – 87, Truro, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 25, 2017. Born in West Branch, she was a daughter of the late Josie and Simon Graham. Jean worked for the Town of Truro, Assessor’s Office, for over 30 years. Jean and her husband, Lloyd Staples, enjoyed a lifelong love of travel - to Europe, across Canada and to Florida. They also enjoyed dancing, and in their retirement years they never missed a Senior’s Dance. A member of St. James Presbyteri­an Church for over 65 years, she sang in the senior’s choir and was an active participan­t in all church activities. Jean is survived by her sister, Pearl (Derek Piers), Tatamagouc­he; brothers, Lloyd, Truro; Carl (Lynne), Moose Jaw, Saskatchew­an; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predecease­d by her husband, Lloyd Staples; son, Kenneth; infant son, Murray Robert; sisters, Eileen Hamilton, Vivian MacKay, Elizabeth Morrison, Margaret Wallace. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, with visitation 6-8 p.m., Tuesday. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday at St. James Presbyteri­an Church, 725 Prince Street, Truro, Rev. Dr. David Sutherland officiatin­g. Reception will follow in the church hall, followed by interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. The family would like to thank staff at Vimy Court for the excellent care and compassion provided to Jean, especially in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to St. James Presbyteri­an Church or charity of your choice.
