McCARTHY, Edward E. “Ted” – 88, Truro, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017, in MacLeod House, Hilden. Born in Falmouth, he was a son of the late C.W. and Doris Mary (Armstrong) McCarthy. Ted was a member of Saint Andrew’s United Church, Truro, where he had served on the Board of Stewards and was a one-time Scout Leader with 3rd Truro Scouts. He was employed with Nova Scotia Department of Transporta­tion for 35 years and was a member of Atlantic Tool Collectors Associatio­n. After his retirement, he was an active woodworker, making and refinishin­g antique furniture and also enjoyed photograph­y. Ted is survived by his son, David (Sharon) McCarthy; step-granddaugh­ter, Michelle (Brett) Friesen; great-granddaugh­ter Madelyn; nieces and nephews; special friends, Les and Charles. Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his wife, Anna C. (Currie) McCarthy. Special thanks to Donna and the staff of MacLeod House. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Boyd Vincent officiatin­g. Burial will take place at a later date in Falmouth Centre Cemetery, Falmouth. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of choice.
