McNeil pleased with the way election campaign went

- GRANVILLE FERRY, N.S.

It’s a safe bet Stephen McNeil voted to reelect his Liberals.

McNeil cast his ballot shortly after noon on Tuesday in the 40th Nova Scotia provincial election. On April 30, he asked Nova Scotians to return his party to government and grant him a second term as premier.

Alongside his wife Andrea, McNeil cast his ballot in his home riding of Annapolis, where he was expected to spend the rest of the day.

McNeil stopped for photos as he entered the Granville Centre Community Hall at noon, where media representatives from across the province were stationed.

The voting centre is just 8.5-kilometres from his home in Upper Granville. McNeil won the riding in 2013 with 75.88 per cent of the votes – his best showing ever. Support in Annapolis for McNeil has increased in every election since 1999, when he lost his first bid for the seat to Frank Chipman.

Also running in the Annapolis riding was Progressive Conservative Ginny Hurlock, back for her second attempt to oust McNeil; NDP Colin Sproul; Atlantica Kent Robinson; and Green Zac Crockatt.

Outside the community centre, flanked by aid David Jackson, McNeil stopped briefly to talk to reporters about the campaign.

McNeil said he was pleased with how the 30-day campaign went and envisioned a path to a second Liberal majority government.
