Three people vying for two commissioners’ seats
Dwane Mellish is joining couple of current village commissioners in a battle for two available seats
Lois MacCormick and Dale McLeod complete their current terms in June and are both reoffering.
In order to vote, a person must be at least 18, and a Canadian citizen who has been a resident of the village for six months immediately preceding polling day and still living in the village. They will be able to vote for two candidates.
Meet the candidates
Lois MacCormick
Lois MacCormick is a longtime resident of Bible Hill. She and her husband Murray have two grown children and four grandchildren.
MacCormick served as a village commissioner from 19921997 and from 2011 to present day. She is currently chair of the commission.
She is the owner of MacCormick’s Personal Tax Services, and has volunteered with the Colchester Community Health Board, Block Parent Program for Colchester County, and Meals on Wheels.
She is committed to addressing flooding issues around Park Street, and street and sidewalk maintenance. Other areas of focus are job creation and building up the amount of money the village has in reserve.

Dale McLeod
Dale McLeod has been a resident of Bible Hill for about 40 years. He and his wife have three children and six grandchildren.
McLeod worked as a power line technician with Nova Scotia Power and then operated and co-owned his own company (McLeod Safety Services). He is now retired.
He has volunteered as a coach for children’s ball teams and as a Cub leader.
He has been the commissioner responsible for recreation services during both of his terms, and he is committed to working toward improvements in recreation facilities, as well as sidewalks and drainage.

Dwane Mellish
Dwane Mellish began volunteering in the community while he was studying at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (now Dalhousie Agricultural Campus). After further studies at the University of Guelph and University of Saskatchewan, he and his wife, Debbie, returned to Bible Hill in 1978. They have three children and one grandchild.
Mellish works as the operations officer at Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia. He has been an active member of the Bible Hill Fire Brigade since 1980, recently completing 10 years as fire chief. He co-chaired the Canadian Firefighters Curling Championship in 2016, was chair of the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Alumni Association, an executive member of the Colchester Firefighters Association, and president of the East Court Road Parent-Teacher Group.
He is committed to working toward stronger promotion of the village’s assets, increasing access to village resources and facilities, building stronger relations with other levels of government, and looking proactively at the needs and interests of the community.
