Young mother’s death in South Rawdon fire ruled a homicide

Police have ruled homicide in a building fire in South Rawdon that killed a 27-year-old woman on April 3.

East Hants District RCMP was called to a structure fire on South Rawdon Rd. at 9:12 a.m. on April 3. The fire occurred in a garage which was detached from an adjacent home. Two young children were rescued from the home, police say.

The Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office was called to assist with the investigat­ion into the cause of the fire, which is believed to have been intentiona­lly set. An autopsy was conducted on April 4 by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service, police say.

Police have obtained warrants and searched two homes in Lower Sackville during their investigat­ion, which remains ongoing. No charges have been laid yet and police are appealing for the public’s help in solving the case.

Anyone who has informatio­n on the events in the South Rawdon area on April 3 that could be connected to the homicide is asked to contact the RCMP at 1-800-803-RCMP (7267). Police say that no piece of informatio­n is too small to be significan­t.
