Fillies rolling into town

Tomorrow afternoon’s action highlights 26 three-yearold pacing fillies rolling into town for the launch of the stake season.

Truro Raceway will host an Atlantic Sires Stakes event with three “A” divisions and a single “B.”

The Atlantic Breeders Associatio­n has been promoting the sport of harness racing for over 50 years, not only providing a showcase for the best of the young horses but also offering incentives for people to purchase and campaign horses in our region.

Fast class

Picking up a few fresh outof-town entries for Truro’s top class, fans will be privy to frontend speed, power and presence with eight contenders lining up for the $1,575 feature pace tomorrow afternoon.

Last Sunday’s victor, His Boy Elroy, will be tackling returning challenger­s along with Heart and Soul for Mary Clare MacDonald, June Bugs Baby, Miss Oromocto and Goliath Reigns off of the favoured rail spot.

Post-time for Race 1 is scheduled for 1 p.m. with qualifying rounds on deck for 11:45 a.m.

Making imprint Several horses with Truro connection­s are making an imprint in the world of harness racing.

The seven-year-old The Rev, bred by Arnold Fitzgerald of New Glasgow and owned by Jeffrey Skinner of Hammonds Plains, began his racing career in Truro out of the Danny Romo Stable. Currently racing out of Yonkers, the campaigner’s life summary reads $327,415 in earnings and a mark of 150.3 taken at Mohawk as a five-year-old.

Bred by the late Donnie Smith of Brookside, Rancousy commenced his storied racing career out of the Darren Crowe camp. Also campaignin­g in Yonkers for New Jersey connection­s, the locally bred pacer shows a bank roll of $208, 597 and a career best of 150.3 over Pocono Downs.

Owned by Bruce Kennedy and Tri County Stable (Percy Bonnell, Dr. Scott Bowen, David CM Bugden and Wayne T Burley), the 2015 North America Cup winner, Wakizashi Hanover, continues his winning ways. Registerin­g a win and three seconds in his last four starts in the Meadowland­s, Harrahs and Harrington the five-year-old American bred has banked in excess of $1.4 million and sports a lifetime record of 1:48 flat over Mohawk Raceway. Wakizashi Hanover is scheduled to return to Mohawk Jun 10 and 17 for both a Preferred and Gold Cup event.

Top of the Turn Diner Top Of The Turn Diner will be offering a pair of specials tomorrow – a roast beef dinner for $15.95 and lobster roll for $16.95 each accompanie­d with dessert and tea/coffee.

Chase the Ace

Last week’s Chase the Ace winner was Charlie Sexsmith of Truro, picking up $118 in prize winnings.

He drew the two of hearts, leaving the Ace of Spades in the deck and the pot with a $ 923 carryover for June 3.
