March to the future

NSCC graduates ready to begin the next chapter in their lives

-

Almost 245 students received certificates or diplomas at convocation ceremonies for the Truro campus of the Nova Scotia Community College.

Students marched into the Rath Eastlink Community Centre, led by a pair of drummers Tuesday afternoon.

Valedictorian Emma Smit-Geraghty told the class of 2017: “Where you come from does not define who you are or where you can go. As in most things, the first step is the hardest and you’ve proven you’re courageous enough to take it.”

Smit-Geraghty, who graduated from the Medical Office Administration program, also received the NSCC Gold Medal and the President’s Award.

Ashley Hasler, a graduate of the Information Technology and Web Programming program, received the Governor General’s Academic Medal.

Victoria Shugarue, a graduate of the Social Services program, received the NSCC Board of Governors Award.

Marian Skinner, a graduate of the Continuing Care Assistant program, received the NSCC Foundation Award.

“NSCC is committed to the success and fulfillment of every student – in education, in career and in life,” says NSCC president Don Bureaux.

“When our students succeed, we succeed. It’s important for us to stop and celebrate all that our students have accomplished on their journey with us, and mark the point at which they begin the next chapter of their lives.”
