Police continue to investigate South Rawdon homicide

Details remain scarce as police continue to investigate a fatal fire in the community of South Rawdon that occurred on April 3, which was deemed a homicide by the RCMP.

The Northeast Nova Major Crimes investigative unit of the RCMP were at the scene again on June 15.

The crime scene remains blocked off by police while officers in protective equipment investigate the area.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke, media relations officer with the RCMP, said they aren’t able to release the victim’s name, although she was identified as a 27-year-old woman in an earlier press release.

“The investigation is ongoing and that’s really all I can say at this point,” Clarke said in a phone interview on Thursday.

Members of the East Hants District RCMP were called to a structure fire on South Rawdon Road at 9:12 a.m. on April 3. The fire occurred in a garage, which was detached from an adjacent home.

An autopsy was conducted on April 4 by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service.

Two young children were rescued from the home.

Police searched two homes in Lower Sackville during the investigation.

No charges have been laid at this point.
