Elks split doubleheader with Pepperjacks
The Brookfield Elks split a doubleheader with the Halifax Pepperjacks on Thursday in the Shooters Bar and Grill Fastpitch League.
The Elks dropped an 8-5 decision in Game 1, but rebounded for a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.
In Game 1, the Pepperjacks broke open a close game with a four-run fourth inning. The Elks made a push by scoring four times in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was a case of too little, too late.
Jeremy Locke led the Elks at the plate with three hits, including a home run and a double, while Cody Anthony also homered.
Anthony pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and six earned runs while striking out five.
In Game 2, the Elks trailed 2-1 before scoring two runs in the sixth inning for the margin of victory.
Connor Hilton went 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs for Brookfield, while Mike Wood also doubled. Locke and Donnelly Archibald each added a hit and drove in a run. Archibald scattered six hits in a completegame victory and struck out 14.
The Elks (4-1) return to action Thursday when they visit the White Rock Rockies for a doubleheader in St. Croix.
In other action on Thursday, the Colchester Royals dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Atlantic Heating Charros in Lantz. Randy Frame was a workhorse for the Charros, pitching completegame shutouts in both contests.
In Game 1, he allowed four hits and struck out 11. In Game 2, Frame spun a one-hitter and fanned 13.
