Truro author launching his first children’s book

-

Chad Norman will be reading to a new audience when he launches his latest book; it’s an illustrated story for children.

‘Waking up on the Wrong Side of the Sky’ developed from Norman’s desire to write a long children’s poem and addresses bullying.

It tells the story of Rove, a large rain cloud, and Chide, a tiny snow cloud who wants a small space in the sky. It is directed toward ages four to 11, and includes illustrations by Bruce Wood.

“I wanted a very clear theme and bullying is something that came very quickly,” said Norman. “I had kids in my life at the time I wrote it, and I heard stories from them.

“I decided to have clouds as the characters because I’ve always been a sky person. I’m fascinated

by what happens in the sky and I love clouds.”

Once Bruce Wood’s illustrations were complete the book was printed at ASE Print, in

Bible Hill.

“I’m pretty excited about this,” said Norman. “It’s going to take me where I want to go as an older author. I’m three-quarters of the way through another children’s book.”

He wanted to launch the book somewhere that has a dir- ect connection with children, and when he approached Andrea Munroe she was enthusiastic about holding the event at her shop, Enchanted Forest. Children and their parents are invited to drop by for the launch and reading at 11 a.m. on June 24.

Numbered copies of the book will also be available for purchase. Anyone who would like to buy the book but is unable to be at the launch can email Chad Norman at mcnorman@eastlink.ca.
