What the coach is saying

- be a starter and hopefully a key contributor.”

Seven players from South Colchester are members of the Nova Scotia Canada Games softball team.

Coby Crowell (Brookfield), Liam Giffen (Coldstream), Alex Rhoddy (Brookfield), Jacob Bowers (Brookfield), Reid Lanceleve (Stewiacke), Dylan McCoul (Brookfield) and Rowan Sears (Brookfield) will play for the Bluenose squad at the Games next month in Winnipeg. Following is what coach Jeff Fraser had to say about each player:

Jacob Bowers (first baseman)

– “He’s a real good defensive first baseman. He bunts well, he’s a left-handed hitter with good speed and he handles the bat pretty well.”

Coby Crowell (outfielder) – “He leads by example and he plays hard for seven innings every time we play. Certainly that energy is felt by the other players.”

Liam Giffen (outfielder) – “He’s an extremely fast runner; he has great speed. He’s great defensively and he’ll certainly be one of our key guys in Winnipeg – he’ll Reid Lanceleve (utility) – “He’s a versatile kid, a left-handed hitter, he can bunt, he can bunt for base hits, he’s got pretty good speed and he offers the versatility to play a lot of different places defensively effectively.”

Dylan McCoul (pitcher) – “Dylan’s improved a lot really over the last two years. He’s one of those guys who changes speeds, hits his spots, he’s not going to overpower anybody, but he’s really learned to pitch and

get people out with what he has.”

Alex Rhoddy (outfielder) – “The first time he played outfield was last year with us when we were finishing up the selection and he’s turned into an elite outfielder, and he’s one of our better hitters; he’s kind of a middle-ofthe-order guy who we will lean on pretty heavily in Winnipeg.”

Rowan Sears (shortstop)

– “Rowan is very strong defensively. The reason he made this team is that he was the best available kid to play shortstop, regardless of his age.”
