Forrestall teaching painting course in Parrsboro
It’s not often people have the opportunity to study with one of the stars of Canadian realism, but that chance is being offered in Parrsboro.
Tom Forrestall will be teaching a course called “The Magic of Egg Tempera” at Art Lab from July 5 to 9.
Forrestall has had solo exhibitions in galleries around the world and is a recipient of the Order of Canada.
His son, William, a highly acclaimed painter who has established his own brand of realism, will also take part.
Egg tempera was used by the Egyptians and perfected by Byzantine Empire iconographers and early Renaissance painters before 15th century Flemish painters “invented” oil paint. It was revived in the 20th century by British and American painters.
“It is one of the cheapest, simplest and most direct media for art-making, and with its own character is most beautiful,” said Forrestall.
Robert More, executive director of Parrsboro Creative, said, “Egg tempera, as it is used by Tom and William Forrestall, creates an almost surreal effect that is truly mesmerizing. We are very lucky to have these two superb talents with us in Parrsboro. It’s an amazing opportunity for people to recharge the batteries and to experience total immersion in a world of creative exploration.”
The cost of the five-day workshop is $400. It is presented by Art Lab Studios & Gallery, in partnership with Parrsboro Creative. For more information, or to register, visit www. artlabstudios.ca or or call 902254-2972.
