Tribute to the King
Thane Dunn, known as one of the best Elvis impersonators in the world, will return to Truro this fall to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Presley’s passing.
It’s been four decades since Elvis Presley passed away, and while he may have ‘left the building’ for good, the spirit of The King lives on in the Maritimes.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the passing of Presley, world champion Elvis tribute Thane Dunn is taking The King on a seven-show tour of the Maritimes, including a stop in Truro.
Starting in late August, Dunn and his Cadillac Kings will play a number of shows, which include stops in Moncton, N.B., Summerside, P.E.I., and Halifax before finishing off with a stop at the Cobequid Educational Centre in Truro on Oct. 7.
This will be Dunn’s second visit to Truro this year, as he performed at the Best Western Glengarry in January.
This time around, the show will be a little different as legendary tenor singer Bill Baize accompanies Dunn on tour.
“We never go back with the same show,” said Dunn in an interview with Truro Daily News earlier this year.
“We always makes things new, we always learn new material.”
Baize is famed for singing as part of JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who performed live with Presley from 1971-1976.
In a press release, Dunn’s performance and stage presence is regarded as “the closest thing to Elvis being in the building” by those who worked closely with The King himself, including photographer John Rowlands and clothier Bill Mogan.
Dunn is also giving fans a chance to win an authenticated Elvis Presley autograph with a letter of authenticity signed by Marty Lacker, who was part of Presley’s famed ‘Memphis Mafia.’
The tour will kick off Aug. 23 with a stop in Bathurst, N.B., and contest info and tickets can be found on Dunn’s website, ThaneDunn.ca.
