Headed back to ’77
Jump suits, corduroy and Stevie Wonder — the CEC Class of 1977 takes a trip back in time
The CEC Class of 1977 is all set to break out the disco music and Don Johnson fashions at their 40-year reunion.
In 1977, graduates of the Cobequid Educational Centre walked off the stage, diploma in hand, ready and eager to face what life had planned for them.
Now, they are returning to their glory years 40 years later for a night of reminiscing, dancing and ’70s music at the CEC Class of 1977’s 40th reunion.
To welcome home graduates and allow them to get reacquainted with their classmates, a lunch will be held at the Engine Room on Aug. 12 followed by a ’70s-themed dance, at the Truro Legion in the evening.
“We have a DJ who is coming to play all the ’70s hits for us. We also suggest people wear ’70s style clothing, but that is optional,” said Pam MacKenzie, a committee member for the reunion.
“We should be having well over 100 people attending. We have always got a lot of enthusiasm toward our reunions, and have had them for our 10, 20 and 30 years, as well. This is a big one though.”
People have begun pre-registering for the reunion dance, and the class’s Facebook group has helped organizers keep in touch with everyone, including a former student who will be travelling back from the Philippines.
“Only a couple of weeks and we will be boogying down, hustling and rocking all night,” said Susan Davy, a class of ’77 graduate, on the reunion’s Facebook page.
“We will be lying to each other about how we have not aged or
look different, comparing high school stories, reliving great moments and rewriting the past. Laughter, dancing and partying will be the theme as we will all magically turn 17 and 18 years old again.”
The cost of registration is $15, and will be collected at the door.
The dance will start Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. and will run until 1 a.m. As for other events or activities, MacKenzie said there is nothing officially planned, but
“there will probably be a few private parties that will be announced.”
