Passionate about the play

Truro woman to stage ‘The Crucible’

For Beth Terry, staging “The Crucible” is a project she’s passionate about.

The Truro woman is directing the play, which will be performed Oct. 21 at the Dal AC Alumni Theatre.

“I was involved with it in university, behind the scenes, and it’s something I’m very drawn to,” she said. “Last year I took a trip to Salem, where it’s set, and it brought back the intrigue for this.”

Terry has a degree in history and has taken part in many things involving history, women’s roles and spirituality.

“The Crucible” is about the Puritan witch purge in Salem, Mass., and focuses on a farming couple and their young servant girl, who causes the wife to be arrested for witchcraft. The man takes the girl to court in an effort to get her to admit the lie, but he ends up being accused of witchcraft.

“It’s about bringing something that mirrors true life to the stage and making sure people don’t forget that words can have heavy consequences,” said Terry.

There are still a few more acting roles available for men and no experience is needed. Some behind-the-scenes people are still required, as well. Terry would like to hear from any person or business interested in being a sponsor.

Tickets will be available in early September.
