Nova Scotia remains in fifth for medals

While rain washed out canoe/ kayak and tennis events, Nova Scotia was still able to bring home a medal.

Andrew Lowe of Bedford finished third in the men’s Special Olympics 100m backstroke final, earning another bronze for Team N.S.

Other swimming events wrapped up as well on Wednesday, with Hanna Mountford of Halifax finishing first in the women’s 100m backstroke event, placing ninth overall.

Riley Allen of Lawrenceto­wn also placed ninth overall after finishing first in the men’s 100m backstroke B finals.

Out of the water, the women’s indoor volleyball team won both of their games Wednesday, beating out British Columbia 3-1 and Yukon 3-0. They sat in second overall with a 4-1 record.

The men’s indoor volleyball team weren’t so lucky, losing to Quebec 3-1 on Wednesday and to British Columbia 3-0 on Thursday. They sat in fourth with a record of 2-2.

The women’s softball team had another rough day, losing to Saskatchew­an 10-0 and Ontario 10-0. They sat in ninth, winless in six outings.

In soccer, the men’s team lost to British Columbia 3-1, leaving them in second place with one win and one loss.

Wrestling had a rough start for Nova Scotia Wednesday, with the women’s team losing to Saskatchew­an 31-17 and Alberta 46-6. They were able to turn their luck around later in the day by beating Nunavut 49-0.

The men’s wrestling team also had a rough start, losing to Quebec 43-9 and Ontario 51-0.
