Saturday night road rampage Vehicles, power pole damaged by stolen truck
A driver in a stolen pickup went on a rampage Saturday night causing considerable property damage and plowing into a power pole.
About 7:30 p.m., Truro Police responded to a call of a stolen vehicle on Walker Street, followed up by a call to a motor vehicle accident on the Esplanade.
While officers were speaking with the motorist in the vehicle that had been hit on the Esplanade the driver of the stolen truck sped away. Police attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver refused to stop. A short time later the vehicle struck several other vehicles and then a power pole at the intersection of King and Victoria streets. The driver fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later.
Three people who were in the stolen vehicle were arrested.
Jason Michael Tupper, 39, of Truro was charged with theft of a truck, impaired driving by alcohol, refusing the breathalyzer, failing to stop at the scene of an accident in which he’d been involved, damaging property and breach of recognizance.
He was remanded in custody to appear in Truro Provincial Court Monday morning.
An 18-year-old female, who had a warrant for her arrest on a previous matter, was charged with assaulting a police officer. She was released and will appear in court at a later date
A 28-year-old male from Truro was released without being charged.
Three people from the struck vehicles were treated at hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
