Moose motif is a winner in condom wrapper contest
Chelsey Atkinson’s artwork could figure prominently in a lot of romantic evenings before long.
A design of hers was chosen, through a contest to mark Canada 150, to adorn condom wrappers.
ONE Condoms received hundreds of submissions for the contest and the top designs were decided by judges and public voting. There was one grand prize winner and five runners-up, of which Atkinson’s was one. All six designs will soon be adorning condom wrappers.
“I heard about the contest when my mom sent me a link and said, ‘Look at this weird contest.’ It was the last weekend to enter but I had time so I thought I’d try to come up with something,” the Truro woman said.
The contest was looking for designs to celebrate Canadian life, culture and history so Atkinson and her boyfriend came up with ideas and she created three designs. One had a hockey theme, one a maple leaf and the third had moose.
“What could be more Canadian than two moose making love with the mountains in the background?” she said. “I had fun with the designs and the one with moose was my favourite. There were other moose ones people sent in that were good too. I really enjoy doing some free roam design and I’ll probably enter more contests.”
Working as a graphic designer at Colchester Print, Atkinson is usually working on items like business cards, so this was a big change for her.
“Graphic design, for me, is a form of art,” she added. “You get to create something out of nothing.”
