Small business owners give back
To the editor:
If you are a parent with a child in a sports program you are already aware of support from local businesses. I doubt there is a hockey league in the province that doesn’t get considerable support from local business. From uniforms to equipment to coaches to prizes, small business contributes at many levels.
Whenever tragedy strikes a family or community you can bet local business owners will be among the first to help with fundraising, materials, and cash. There are constant requests for assistance and, although many must be denied, there are frequent displays of goodwill towards their communities.
One recent example of generosity came my way through an improvement project I have been working on for The Lower Pleasant Valley Cemetery. I had phoned to ask the price for some much needed topsoil. When I explained what it was for, the immediate response was “I’ll donate two tandem dumps.”
As it happened, that was the amount of topsoil I needed, so there was no charge at all.
The Board of Directors of The Lower Pleasant Valley Cemetery are very grateful for the generosity of Fundy Compost of Pleasant Valley. Being somewhat challenged for funds, we were spared considerable expense by this display of kindness towards our community.
This is just one example of small business supporting local initiatives. There are countless other acts of generosity every week. Our communities would be less enjoyable without this constant giving back by small business owners.
We should make time to salute their efforts.
