Deborah Mitton likes to inspire people of all ages to dance.

After years of dancing, including ice dancing, she set up Show Case in Truro, and would like to be involved with starting an opera company in the future.

“This is for the community,” she said. “Dance is something people can enjoy, whether they’re dancing themselves or watching.”

Mitton set up her business in 2013, selling dance, skate and prom wear, with a small studio attached. Show Case grew quickly and now has instructors for a variety of dance forms including ballet, tap, hip-hop, ballroom, Latin, creative and jazz. There’s also a parent and tot program and musical theatre.

The larger dance studio allows it to host the Tri Dance Competitive Team and provide space for the Special Olympic Gymnastic Team to practise.

“Dancing means a lot to me and I love to see people enjoy dance,” said Mitton, who began her formal training in ballet and Irish dance at the age of seven. “Whether they’re children or adults, they can enjoy it.”

Mitton has also been a certified national coach in figure skating.

Registration for autumn classes takes place at the studio (184 Arthur St.) today (Sept. 2) at 2 p.m. For more information contact Show Case Dance Studio at 902899-4115 or showcasedancestudio@hotmail.com
