Known for its local artisans and creative food vendors, the Truro Farmers Market is venturing into something a little different — food trucks.

The market is hosting the Food Trucks at the Market event, a food truck party that will bring a wide variety of meals, desserts and drinks to Downtown Truro this Wednesday

The rally will have 16 food trucks from all over the province, including local favourites Taco Stiles and Waffles on my Mind.

“They are all keen to come to Truro, which is great,” said Margaret Congdon, market manager of the Truro Farmers Market.

“We are also going to have live music from a group of local musicians called Partly Bored, who recently placed second at the NSPE talent show. There will also be seating all around the market area, so there’s space for everyone.”

The food trucks will provide a variety of different foods from ribs and wood-fire pizza to pressed sandwiches and Indian cuisine. There will also be two beer trucks and a few dessert trucks.

Food trucks have become a popular stop for people looking for grub on the go, and the market hopes their food truck party will bring some attention to the downtown area and the market itself.

“It’s a great way to bring large groups of people to downtown Truro on a weeknight,” said Congdon.

“We hope to bring in people who don’t visit the Farmers Market on Saturdays to give them a chance to look at it and get a feel on what we are about. We are looking into possibly having a few vendors on sight, but nothing is set in stone right now.”

The market is holding the food truck party to raise funds for much-needed renovations to the building, such as repainting the floor, and also to purchase new signage to point travellers toward the market.

“Were not charging the public anything to come to the event,” said Congdon.

“The money we raise is coming from the food trucks themselves, but we will be accepting donations if anyone would like to donate as well.

“Our mission here is to promote local small businesses and the people that run them. Everything we do goes back into the market so we can continue to provide this space for our local artists and small business people.”
