- BY HARRY SULLIVAN TRURO DAILY NEWS hsullivan@trurodaily.com

A four-week project to install a water main extension on MacElmon Road in Debert is slated to begin in early November.

Colchester County Council on Monday approved a bid of $181,840 (plus HST) submitted by J.R. Eisener Contracting for the project.

The bid was the lowest of four received by the municipality.

The work includes the installation of 380 metres of water main in preparation for construction of a new roundabout planned for MacElmon Road exit on Highway 104. The roundabout is aimed at supporting construction of new roads along the Highway 104 frontage, which in turn will open up new lands for development.

The provincial and federal governments have contributed a total of $562,363 in funding towards the cost of constructing water, sewer and storm- water servicing for the roundabout project.

The MacElmon Road work will represent the start of that work.

The larger project cannot proceed until the area has been cleared of any potential archeological artifacts.

The four bids, from lowest to highest are:

J.R. Eisener Contracting – $181,840

Dexter Construction – $235,200 Atlantic Road Construction and Paving – $246,390

W. Eric Whebby Construction Ltd. – $246,850
