MacKAY, S. Arnold – 74, Union, Colchester County, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, October 16, 2017, at home. Born in Union, he was a son of the late Stanley and Janie ( MacLean) MacKay. As a young man, Arnold served in the Canadian Army in Canada and overseas and was awarded the Special Services Medal. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, for 50 years. Throughout his life, he worked at many occupation­s, but always considered himself a trucker. Always acting the tough guy, he had a huge soft spot for all children and animals. Arnold is survived by his sister, Sylvia ( Lloyd) Kaulback; sister- in- law, Sharon MacKay; niece, Kelly MacKay; nephews, Mike and Dale MacKay. He will be sadly missed by his long- time partner, Beth Giles; her daughter, Theresa ( Brad) Talbot; their son, Ethan ( Grampy’s Little Man); his best friend, Ron Wesley. Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his brother, Ross; sister, Ruby; nephews, Brian MacKay and John Kaulback. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where members of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service 5; 45 p. m., followed by visitation from 6- 8 p. m., both on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, and funeral service 2 p. m., Thursday, October 19, 2017. Reception will follow. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery, 110 Salmon River Road, Valley. If so desired, donation to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro ( General Fund) are welcomed.
