Full steam ahead

The Truro Bearcats are where they should be.

They’ve taken care of business at home, compiling a 5-1 record, however, they haven’t totally figured out the secret of winning on the road, where they have a 1-5 record.

Over the last week, the Bearcats played three strong games and a disappointing one all on the road. The results show a single win for their efforts.

At the Showcase the team had a hard time scoring and didn’t get the breaks around their own net. That’s not a winning recipe.

Friday, in Campbellton, the Bearcats snapped a four-game losing streak, picking up their first win in October. It was welcomed.

The Bearcats knew what to expect, got solid goaltending and received a full pull from the entire lineup. A pair of power-play goals also helped.

Saturday’s loss to Miramichi, the second in the week to the Timberwolves, was a tough one to swallow.

The Bearcats outshot their opponent 35-8 over the last two periods but couldn’t buy a goal. This was a great effort gone unrewarded.

For sure, the Bearcats are hanging tough but not over the hump finding solutions. Two of the losses required empty-netters.

This week is like a normal week where the players can practice to get ready for a couple of games against divisional rivals.

They have to learn from the losses, take the positives and move forward. That’s the plan.

Friday, the Pictou County Crushers are at the RECC for a 7 p.m. start. Truro picked up a win over them earlier.

The Crushers have the distinction of handing Edmundston its first loss. They look to build on that to make some strides in the standings.

Saturday the Bearcats travel to Amherst to face the Ramblers for the first meeting this season. This is another rivalry requiring little rekindling.

The Ramblers were awarded the 2019 Fred Page Cup Tournament. They’ve started to build for that already.

The Bearcats are clearly focused on getting better. Their 10 rookies have learned a lot over a short period of time.
