On the move
Colchester Sexual Assault Centre heading to downtown Truro
The Colchester Sexual Assault Centre is on the move. The centre is relocating from Glenwood Drive to the Bank of Montreal building on the corner of Prince and Commercial Streets.
“We’ve got the keys for the new place and we’re excited,” said Kendra MacKinnon, executive director at the CSAC. “We outgrew this space and in the new location we’ll have lots of room. We’ll also be more visible and accessible, and there’ll be more privacy.
“It’s exciting, but also scary because of the cost.”
In order to afford a larger space the centre had to close its Enfield satellite location, and may rent out one of the offices in their new space.
The centre also needs board members willing to help them make progress.
“We’re actively seeking new board members who are enthusiastic and active and want to do things,” said MacKinnon. “We need money to help us keep things running so anyone willing to help with things is welcome.”
Something they hope to get for their new space is two large whiteboards, and MacKinnon would be thrilled to hear from anyone with one they’re no longer using. Financial donations are also appreciated.
The CSAC will be in the process of moving Nov. 15-17 and will open in the new site (35 Commercial St., Suite 403) on Nov. 20. The public is invited to stop by for a visit during an open house, which will take place Dec. 7 from 1-4 p.m.
Anyone interested in becoming a board member can contact MacKinnon at 902-897-4366, info@colchestercsac.ca or message the centre through Facebook at www.facebook.com/colchestersac/
