Walter (Dad) was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, where he raised his family and built a successful business.

Dad’s early career began at the Brookfield Creamery, from 1940 to 1956, with the exception of a brief absence when he was in the army 1944-46.

For many years, he worked as a dairy Inspector for the N.S. Department of Agriculture. In June 1968 he decided to embark on a new venture and become a full time business owner. This new venture would develop into two successful Truro businesses: H & A Travelways and Kingston Aluminum Products Ltd.

Beginning with selling and renting tent trailers to becoming the Atlantic distributor for RV parts/accessories, and in the second business: from manufacturing custom windows and doors to installing residential and commercial windows, doors and vinyl siding; both businesses thrived and gave him a great sense of accomplishment.

Walter (Dad) was very involved in the Truro community over the years in various capacities. He served for two terms as Truro Town Councillor from 1980 to 1987. He was a long term Rotarian, past-president of the Liberal Association of Colchester County, and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Truro, Branch #26. He was proud to be named Veteran of the Year in 1976.

Walter (Dad) has been a supporter of local and worthy causes such as Rotary House, the Canadian Cancer Society and Tatamagouche Mountain Cemetery.

Walter (Dad) enjoyed reading, working on various projects at the farm, travelling, and being with friends and family. He was known for his work ethic, determination, strong personality and sense of fun.
