OUR VETERAN’S GARDEN
There’s a little garden planted, in a small and kindly town.
It stands as a true memory of our veterans that surround
this town from where they heeded, the call for freedom for this land.
The call that changed their lives forever.
That claimed too many who took a stand.
Every time we plant a flower or a shrub beneath the ground.
We honor veterans who fought in wars,
and those left home to do the chores
that couldn’t wait for their return.
And those who prayed they would return.
We plant the shrubs and flowers with care.
To show them our thanks is always there.
The garden is near the Town of Truro
on Highway 102 where buildings tower
around the hustle and bustle of life.
Life that now goes on without the strife
of the World Wars that they went to.
Life without the horrors and strife they knew so we are free to walk and drive, beside this garden that honors their lives.
Veteran Herb Peppard had a dream one night.
He dreamed of a garden to remember the fight
of the Allied countries to keep us free.
He dreamed of a garden so all could see
that we choose to remember and cherish their names. That we’ll never forget those who do not remain
in the town, and have passed away.
The garden’s a symbol of their contribution
A symbol of thanks and appreciation.
Every flower that’s planted brings a memory to mind.
Every shrub has a story of those left behind.
Every rock is a symbol of the tough fight they had.
Every bush means we care about all of the lads
who went to war, and gave up the comforts of home.
And a tribute to those who didn’t come home.
God bless them and keep them in His tender care.
And God bless our garden that shows that we care.
