Parrsboro wins Community Arts & Culture Recognition Award
The community of Parrsboro has been named winner of the 2017 Community Arts & Culture Recognition Award from Arts Nova Scotia.
Each year the award is given to a community that demonstrates a commitment to the integration of arts and culture into the fabric of everyday life.
“This award is a testimony to the extraordinary amount of artistic involvement in this community,” said Parrsboro creative executive director Robert More. “The number of people engaged in creative pursuits in Parrsboro is amazing, and the variety of arts and culture organizations is impressive.”
The community is home to Ship’s Company Theatre, Art Lab Studios & Gallery, Fundy Geological Museum, Ottawa House, Classics By The Bay, Main & Station, The Hall, and the Citizens Choir.
“Add three annual festivals – the Parrsboro Plein Air, 10 Days in October, the Parrsboro Film Festival – and the result is an inspiring combination of grassroots artistry and exploration by highprofile artists that makes this community a unique and exciting place to live,” said More. “Hats off to the people of Parrsboro. This award is for you!”
The award is being presented at the Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala today at The Discovery Centre in Halifax. Norman Rafuse, District 13 councillor for the Municipality of the County of Cumberland, will accept the award on behalf of Parrsboro.
The Community Arts and Culture Recognition Award carries a cash value of $10,000, and the money will be used to further the connection between the arts and its community.
Last year’s winner was Lunenburg.
