It is with deep sadness and heartbreak that we announce the unexpected death of Don on Oct. 6, 2017 due to complications following a cardiac procedure in Victoria, B.C.

We convey our gratitude to the doctors and nurses who worked so hard to save his life. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late James Leslie Macneill and Veronica (Richardson).

Don is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debra Bellamy, daughters Laura, Sharon, son Jeff, step-daughter Jody, grandchildren Chermine, Krista, Kody, Jeremy, Carlie, siblings Neata, Leslie, Dave, Alice, Bob, many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by daughter Michele, siblings Frank and Marie.

Don was raised in Nova Scotia where he also raised his family with his wife Marilyn. He had many careers excelling in everything he did. He worked for the Truro Daily News, the Provincial Red Cross organization, promoting it throughout Nova Scotia, as well as in sales at IKEA in Nepan, Ontario. He pursued his final career in Victoria working at the DMV wiring the B.C. ambulances and later retiring from the B.C. Ministry of Health’s Record Department.

Don loved wilderness, hiking, canoeing, camping, all outdoor sports and activities. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and bicycle year round. He loved animals, especially his beloved cats Molly and Mya.

He had a natural engineering mind and could repair or rebuild any engine, machine, or electronic device. He also created beautiful wooden structures, arbours and fencing for his rock gardens that were enjoyed by all.

Don was a strong, reliable, honest, generous and loyal father, grandpa, husband, brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed by anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
