Autumn meet continues Sunday at Truro Raceway

is Sunday promises to deliver a particular­ly fun and exciting afternoon with Steve Downey and Scott Hubbard shipping in from Saint John, N.B., with four fresh competitor­s shaking up the mix.

Another newcomer to the track, 11-year-old Quebec-foaled Charlie Drummond will be sent out from the Leslie Parker Stable while trainer Dave Settle will be showcasing a nine-year-old American-born, Don’t Tell Mom, for the rst time in Truro.

e always popular $1,575 top class sends out seven starters in the 9th, with the six-year-old son of Somebeachs­omewhere, Weather Hanover, now racing for new connection­s, Dawn Ellis and Je Ellis. Dawn Ellis will also be campaignin­g Goliath Reigns in tomorrow’s feature.

Other starters include Distinctiv Rusty for Ryder Matthews Rennison, Andrea Rennison and Cathy Benedict; Zingers Laugh for Neal Moase; Ian Macdonald’s Somebeachs­omewhere o spring Giant Slayer; Steve Downey’s Jackson K Down; and Woggy Rocks for Mikaela Wheaton of P.E.I.

Post time is Sunday at 1 p.m.; qualifying rounds are 11:45 a.m.

Age is only a number Three of the raceway’s most popular campaigner­s combined once again last Sunday for a 1-2-3 nish, proving once again that age is only a number.

Fourteen-year-olds Sharon the Moment for Devin and Charles O’connor, Jennifer Baxter’s Intrepidus and Bagel Man for Bob Collette hit the wire to trigger the second race exactor and triactor.

With ages totalling 42, these three aged pacers are showing the horse community and fans alike that age is only a state a mind; they are athletic, energized, tough and de nitely keen for the game.

Tomorrow will see the trio pitted against each other again in Race 5.

‘Elroy’ on a roll

Since purchasing the ve-year old His Boy Elroy on Oct. 30, Doug Polley, along with co-owners Edward Gorc, and Mike Brealey, the former Truro campaigner has set down a pair of impressive victories at Woodbine Raceway.

e rst victory came Nov. 4 covering the ground in 1: 51.2 and then again on Nov. 11 with a career record time of 1:50.4. e four-year-old Brookdale Sonny, also owned by Doug Polley and Doug Polley Jr. of Amherst picked up a victory on Nov. 9 at Flamboro in 1:58.1.

His Boy Elroy is programmed to start this evening at Woodbine in Race 10 in line to Phil Hudon.
