Officials mark Municipal Awareness Week
Colchester County’s elected officials would like you to get to know them a little better.
Colchester County is celebrating Municipal Awareness Week, running to Nov. 24, as part of a province-wide effort to better connect community members with their local municipalities. The initiative aims to promote the importance of municipal government in people’s daily lives and encourage citizens to become more involved.
“Although this week is deemed Municipal Awareness Week, our council’s philosophy is to encourage more community engagement and involvement year-round,” said Mayor Christine Blair. “It’s important to us that we remain accessible and responsive to community needs and that we offer a variety of ways for people to get to know us better.”
To do that, Colchester residents can attend council meetings or invite a representative to present to a class or group, and they can read the municipality’s regular newsletter or take a facility tour.
Colchester County is a leader in both waste diversion and sewage treatment and the public can request a tour of the county’s modern wastewater treatment facility or solid waste facilities online or by attending an open house event, held periodically throughout the year.
