Baker leaves CBC show inspired

- By Carla Allen

East Coast Baker Julian d’entremont plans on continuing to bake.

After his elimination from CBC’S Great Canadian Baking Show that aired on Nov. 29, d’entremont, who was raised in South Ohio, Yarmouth County, says competing in the show boosted his self- confidence.

“This whole experience has inspired me to keep working at it. I have a day job (as a contractor) but I’m definitely open to local collaborations or interesting ventures should they arise,” he said.

He’s baking orders through so- cial media when he has the time.

D’entremont was one of 10 bakers selected for the show. One baker is eliminated in each episode.

He says he feels that being in five of the eight episodes was beyond where he thought he would make it when he agreed to do the show.

“Initially I just wanted to not be the first one out,” he said.

The amount of support he received from the East Coast and all over the country was overwhelming, he says.

“I couldn’t be happier or more appreciative.”

Finding time to practise for his bakes on the show was difficult and he suspects that some of his traditional bakes like blueberry grunt weren’t familiar to the judges.

“They thought it should be a cake, but it’s a dumpling and as such is more dense than they thought it should be,” he said.

He adds that he wouldn’t change anything about the whole experience.

“It’s something that may only come your way once in your life and I’ve always been a guy that isn’t afraid to try something new. I know it’s cliché, but those things you do out of your comfort zone are the things that help you see who you are and what you can do.”
