Bearcats win one, lose two

A swing through New Brunswick produced a few close games

The Truro Bearcats managed just one win in three outings as they made a loop through New Brunswick on the weekend.

Friday, the Bearcats lost to Woodstock 3- 1, Saturday they turned things around for a 2-1 victory over St. Stephen Aces and Sunday they were shaded 2-1 by the Blizzard in Edmundston.

The Bearcats opened the scoring Sunday as Dylan Burton tallied from Campbell Pickard midway through the opening frame.

Edmundston came back in the second with a pair of goals that proved the difference, as Alexandre Bernier, on the power play, and Pierre Bourgoin found the mark and the Blizzard held on from there.

Truro netminder Kevin Resop faced 27 Blizzard shots, while at the other end, Francis Asselin turned aside 31 of 32 Truro shots for the win.

Woodstock 3 Bearcats 1 Three unanswered goals in the third period proved the difference Friday in Woodstock.

After a scoreless first, Taylor Read opened the scoring for Truro in the second, assisted by Craig Ryan.

However, goals by Mac Mindus, Kyle Foreman and Conor MacLean in the third gave the Slammers the victory.

Alec Macdonald faced 29 shots, tending goal for the Bearcats.

Bearcats 2 St. Stephen 1 Saturday, Cameron Macleod scored to put Truro ahead in the first before Casey Fox tied it up less than a minute into the second.

Riley Baggs scored what proved to be the winner at 4:08 of the second, from Damiel Little and Read.

Resop turned aside 24 of 25 shots for the win while his teammates fired 23 shots at the Aces’ net.

Next action for the Bearcats is Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. in New Glasgow against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers.

Next home game is Friday, Jan. 5 at the Rath- Eastlink Community Centre when they host the Blizzard in a 7 p.m. contest.
