A gourmet burger shop is reopening its doors in Hubtown and will be bigger and better than ever.

The ever-popular Hub Grub is bringing its homemade burgers back to Truro by popular demand, and will be reopening in its new location at 41 Inglis Pl. within the next month.

“We will be doing a soft opening right after the New Year, and will have some sort of grand opening near the end of January,” said Trevor Macdonald, owner of Hub Grub.

The burger joint, known for its various burger creations such as the Nacho Burger and Mac N’ Cheese Burger, had closed its doors at its location on the corner of Queen and Mill in June of this year, but had announced it would be returning after a new location was found.

“We did OK in the beginning at the old place, but thought we could do a little better in a new location with more traffic around,” said Macdonald.

“We’re going to rock with the same menu in the beginning for the time being. We have expanded the kitchen here to hopefully add to the menu in the future, but for now it’ll stay the same.”

The immediate changes to the business come with the new location – a now orange and black storefront – offering almost double the space for seats and patrons over the old location, making way for almost 40 people at a time.

When it re-opens, the restaurant will run similarly to how it ran before and will carry over their open kitchen concept from the old location.

“We aren’t hiding too much for how we cook it or prepare the food,” said Macdonald.

“We’re making the patties and grilling them up right in front of you. I think that atmosphere we bring and the quality of the food is what makes us stand out. I never boast we make a cheap burger, but it’s a good-quality burger, and it makes a difference when you try it.”

Delays with renovations have pushed the opening date past the New Year, derailing the original plan of re-opening before Christmas, but that hasn’t stopped the talk around Hub Grub’s return.

“Just going around town, wherever I go, I am always asked, ‘Are you reopening? When are you opening again?’” said Macdonald.

“The patience of our customers is amazing, but I don’t want to rush it and, you know, just put the grill in and say we’re open. I have to practise a little bit and make sure everything is going to go right.”
