A number of events provide something for everyone’s tastes this New Year’s Eve

Historical­ly, New Year’s Eve has always featured a variety of social events for people to celebrate the passing of one year and the start of another.

For anyone in Truro looking to get out and celebrate Sunday, there’s lots of activities to choose from.

MUSIC

For those who enjoy a bit of live music with their festivitie­s, there are a handful of shows going on around the Truro area.

New Year’s Eve with

Nowhere Road

Truro cover band Nowhere Road will be playing at the Bellyup BBQ & Grill for New Year’s Eve, kicking out some wellknown tunes and a few forgotten gems for everyone to dance to. The show kicks off at 10 p.m., but everyone is welcome to get there early to grab a bite to eat beforehand. Tickets are $10 at the door.

THC New Year’s Eve with

Southern Grace

Fans of country and classic rock will want to head to the Truro Horsemen’s Club for their New Year’s Eve party. Country rock act Southern Grace is performing and will hit the stage at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers with couple’s packages available.

New Year’s Eve party with

Not Safe For Work

Truro party band Not Safe For Work is hosting a NYE party in Julia’s Lounge at the Stonehouse Motel to ring in 2018 with a bang. With their uncanny ability to accommodat­e any crowd, you can expect to hear a wide range of music from country and blues to rock and hip-hop. The show kicks off at 9 p.m., and tickets are $10, which includes a champagne toast at midnight, or apple juice for designated drivers.

DINNERS, DANCES AND GALAS

The best part of any celebratio­n is often the food and the dancing, and there is no shortage of either this year.

Holiday Inn’s

New Year’s Eve Gala

The Holiday Inn Truro is inviting everyone to ring in the New Year in style with food, music and celebratio­ns. The festivitie­s will kick off with a lavish buffet at 7 p.m., followed by live music from Nova Scotia band Hush and some midnight party favours. Tickets are $190 per couple and can be purchased by contacting the Holiday Inn Truro.

New Year’s Eve Dinner

Bistro 22 is hosting a NYE dinner, which will feature a full three-course meal for those looking to enjoy a bit of fine dining. Options will be available for the dinner, with starters varying between soups and veggies, mains between gourmet beef, pork or fish, and a tasty dessert. There will be two seatings for the dinner at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., which are by reservatio­n only, and the cost is $50 per person.

Best Western Glengarry’s

New Year’s Eve Gala

The Best Western Glengarry is sending 2017 off with a NYE gala on Sunday, featuring the lively DJ Scott Jeffrey, who will be providing music and entertainm­ent. There will be a make-yourown-sandwich bar and a candy bar on site, and appetizers will also be served. The event kicks off at 9 p.m., and tickets are $69 per couple, $215 with a room included.

Kinsmen’s

New Year’s Eve Dance

The Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill is holding a NYE dance at the Bible Hill Junior High on Sunday to ring in 2018. The dance will feature appetizers, live music provided by Truro’s TKG Entertainm­ent and a $500 door prize. The dance starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are $20 per person.

NYE Dance with Country Heat

A dance will be held at the Truro Legion, and will feature music from Country Heat. The dance will take place in the Auditorium and there will be a cash bar on site. The dancing kicks off at 9 p.m. and tickets are $20.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENTS

Sometimes it’s nice to just celebrate with those closest to you, and there are a handful of events happening around Truro to do just that.

Family Activities at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre

The RECC is holding a few free family events on Sunday for those looking to get out with their kids and loved ones for a little NYE fun. The RECC will be holding a free swim 11:30 a.m. for the first 150 swimmers, followed by a free rock wall climbing session and free family skate session at noon. A second free swim session will be held for another 150 swimmers at 1 p.m.

Kids Activities at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre

For the kids, a number of free activities will be held at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre on Sunday, including face painting, balloon animals and bounce houses. The events start at 3 p.m., and will feature refreshmen­ts and a designated toddler’s area.

Evening Activities at Colchester Legion Stadium

Going into the evening, there will be a free family skate session at Colchester Legion Stadium at 6:30 p.m., as well as live music by Tim Bowers and Gordon Tucker in the upstairs lounge. The evening will wrap up at 9 p.m. with a fireworks display.
