Truro Raceway celebrates New Year’s Eve

Truro Raceway will be celebratin­g New Year’s Eve with an afternoon card of exciting and entertaini­ng live harness racing featuring seven dashes and 45 horses.

Post time Sunday is 1 p.m., with qualifying rounds at 11:45 a.m.

Trainer Nick White will be sending out a fresh contender leaving out of Post 3 in the sixth, Sheldonthe­psychic. The fouryear-old son of Brandons Cowboy is a graduate of Prince Edward Island’s 2014 Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale and recently returned to the Maritimes from Rideau Carleton Raceway.

With the mandatory retirement age for Standardar­dbreds set at the end of their 14th year Jennifer Baxter’s Intrepidus and Sharon The Moment owned by Charles and Devin O’connor will be making their final career starts tomorrow afternoon in Races 1 and 4.

Donald Beaton of Port Hood along with Rodney Gillis will be returning to the card with R ES Aiden being the lone ship-in Cape Breton entry in the lineup.

Twenty – four year old New Brunswick native and P.E.I. resident, Dale Spence, fresh off of a driving triple on his last visit to Truro Raceway will be taking a seat behind 6 on Sunday’s program.

Two Janaury race programs are slated for the 2018 winter meet before the annual break:

Sunday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 14. Post Time 1 p.m.

Driver Standings

The entertaini­ng New Brunswick teamster, Todd Trites, ended his 2017 Truro Raceway meet with 50 winning rides. Trites is taking a brief hiatus from the bike until later in the new year.

Presently standing second on the leaderboar­d is the talented Brookfield native, Ryan Ellis, finishing his 2017 season with 33 victories. Getting the call behind 5 in the final card of the year the confident and skillful Darren Crowe goes into tomorrow’s program with 30 winning trips to rank third only three behind second-place Ellis.

Eligibilit­y Payments Standardbr­ed Canada requires that eligibilit­y payments must be paid prior to any horse racing in 2018.

The payment of $73 may be paid to any Standardbr­ed Canada Field Rep. The Truro Race Office field rep will be on site Sunday, Dec. 31 until the end of the race card, or by calling Standardbr­ed Canada, Mississaug­a at 905858-3060 or online via E Shop on the Standardbr­ed Canada website.

Outstandin­g Groom Award

Submission­s

Standardbr­ed Canada and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporatio­n are partnering to offer the third annual Outstandin­g Groom Award.

Submission­s are due by Tuesday, Jan. 2, with two finalist being announced on Jan. 9 and the winner revealed at the O’brien Awards on Feb. 3. Details and submission informatio­n is available on Standardbr­ed Canada’s website.

Simulcast Action

Entertaini­ng Simulcast action gets underway today at 1:30 p.m. with Aqueduct.

Laurel, Freeehold and Gulfstream continue throughout the afternoon and the day ends up this evening with Meadowland­s going to post at 8:15 p.m.

Tomorrow evening Red Shores Charlottet­own will be on the simulcasti­ng schedule with their festive New Year’s Eve race program with a 6:30 p.m. post.
