Bearcats back from hiatus
MHL play resumes after weather postponements
After an extended holiday due to weather, the Bearcats are getting back in action.
Local hockey fans have to wait a little longer to see their Truro Bearcats back in action at the Rath-eastlink Community Centre.
The Bearcats were scheduled to host the Edmundston Blizzard Friday night in Maritime Hockey League action but that game was postponed due to weather.
Their Thursday night game against Pictou County Weeks Crushers in New Glasgow was also cancelled.
Truro was slated to play in Summerside last night against the revitalized Western Capitals.
Heading into Sunday’s action, the Bearcats ( 14- 14- 0- 1), were holding fourth spot in the Eastlink South Division, with 29 points, four up on the Crushers (11-14-2-1). The Amherst Ramblers (15-5-4-5), third in the division with 39 points, have put some distance between themselves and the Bearcats. Yarmouth Mariners (22-7-1-0) hold the division lead with 45 points, while South Shore Lumberjacks (20-10-0-1) are second with 41.
The Blizzard (23-4-3-0) continue to rule the overall MHL standings with 49 points, with Campbellton Tigers and Miramichi Timberwolves tied for second in the north division with 34 points, and Summerside just one back of them.
Coming up, the Bearcats host the division’s last-place team, the Valley Wildcats (11-17-1-1) for a 7 p.m. contest at the RECC.
Then Thursday, Jan. 18, Truro travels to Bridgewater for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Lumberjacks.
