Sydney man crashes front-end loader through a home, NSLC outlet.

Cape Breton Regional Police have a 51-year-old Sydney man in custody after a home and a Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation outlet were damaged by a frontend loader.

The man’s arrest comes after police responded to a report that the loader was trying to demolish a home on Seaview Drive in North Sydney at about 5 a.m. Monday.

While on route, officers received information that the machine had left the property and was travelling on Seaview Drive toward North Sydney.

Officers located the front-end loader near the Northern Yacht Club but the driver did not stop for police, who continued to follow him to the Superstore parking lot on King Street, where he stopped briefly before crashing into the NSLC storefront.

Police were able to approach

the machine and get the driver to come out, at which time he was arrested.

No one was inside the NSLC outlet or the home on Seaview Drive when the buildings were damaged.

The loader also knocked down a power pole outside of the home.

Nova Scotia Power was called to that area for repairs.

Police are reporting no injuries from either crash.

The driver of the loader and owner of the damaged home are known to each other.

Police continue to investigate and charges are pending.
