Pizza and burger week fundraisers on Truro menu

- By Harry Sullivan

Prepare for a burger and pizza frenzy.

A variety of local restaurants are gearing up for a week of signature pizzas in January and a week of signature burgers in February.

And both are being held as fundraisers, with $3 from each $20 pizza being donated to the Colchester Food Bank and $2 from each $10 order of burger and fries gong to the Homeless Outreach Society.

This is the fourth year for a Burger Week in February and coordinator Derek Forsyth, who owns several Truro eateries, said it has become popular enough that people are already calling and emailing him to ask when the next one is being held.

“It’s kind of snowballed to the point where people actually start asking right about now,” he said.

After opening his Sauced Wood Fired Pizza location on Prince Street beside his Nook & Cranny pub last year, Forsyth decided to approach other pizzeria owners with the concept of also having a pizza week.

“We have some great operating partners,” he said. “They all share the same enthusiasm and vision.”

Last year’s Burger Week resulted in a $7,000 donation to the Homeless Outreach Society. And Forsyth said he is hoping both events will generate good proceeds to each of this year’s charities.

“It’s a perfect time of the year to do it,” he said. “Let’s see how much money we can raise for the food bank.”

Pizza Week is being held Jan. 22- 28 at Sauced, Sam’s Pizza House, Acropole Pizza and Donairs, Pizza Market, Revana Pizza and Ali Naser’s Pizza.

Burger Week is to run from Feb. 18-24 at Fletcher’s Restaurant, Hubtown Sports Bar and Grill, Belly Up BBQ & Grill, the Nook and Cranny Brew Pub, Roadside Willies, Bistro on Prince, the Hub Grub and Bistro 22.

Collector cards will also be available at each location and anyone who purchases a pizza from at least four of the six locations and/or a burger from at least five of the eight participants can have their name entered in a draw. From that, one winner will come away with $20 gift cards from each of the participating eateries.
