-

The Truro Bearcats continue their steady climb in the MHL blanking the north division’s Timberwolves 4-0 as Alec Macdonald posted his second shutout of the season.

Alec Macdonald turned aside 25 shots to post his second shutout of the season, as the Truro Bearcats blanked the visiting Miramichi Timberwolves 4- 0 Friday night in Maritime Hockey League action.

The Bearcats (19-16-1-1), who had the fewest goals against in the league heading into action Sunday at 99, continue their steady play and hold fourth in the Eastlink South Division, with 40 points. Making up ground on third-place Amherst Ramblers ( 20- 7- 5- 5) is proving difficult, however, as they sit 10 points ahead of the Bearcats.

Yarmouth Mariners (28-11-10) hold the division lead with 57 points, followed by South Shore Lumberjacks (25-11-2-2) with 54.

Macdonald’s shutout win Friday at the Rath-eastlink Community Centre leaves him with a league-best goals-against average of 1.82.

Cameron Macleod opened the scoring just under two minutes in, with Gavin hart picking up the assist.

Macleod upped the count to 2-0 in the second and Noah Archibald scored to make it a 3-0 margin midway through the frame.

Dylan Burton scored early in the third to round out the 4-0 final.

Campbell Pickard picked up two helpers in the contest, that saw the Bearcats fire 35 shots at the Miramichi net. Rescheduled game

this Wednesday

Truro faces three home games this week, the first a make-up

contest for one that was cancelled earlier in the season, against the league-leading Edmundston Blizzard. Game time Wednesday at the RECC is 7 p.m.

Then Friday the Bearcats entertain the Pictou County Weeks Crushers, while Saturday, the Campbellton Tigers are in town.

Both games begin at 7 p.m.

Shea suspended

The MHL’S top scorer, by buckets, TJ Shea of the Summerside Western Capitals has been given a two- game suspension. The move comes after Shea received a kneeing major Friday night just

1:02 into a game with the Tigers, where an injury was involved.

Shea held a 25-point lead over his closest challenger. He’s potted 37 goals and 56 assists, good for 93 points. Shea’s team mate Brodie Macarthur is second with 22 goals and 46 assists, for 68 points.
